Iran suppression of women highlighted
BY ASHALI VARMA
VIENNA-In separate telegrams to the United Nations Secretary General and the President of the World Conference on Human Right, on Wednesday, Maryam Rajavi, the Secretary General of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran, pointed to the new wave of suppression against Iranian women, calling for the unequivocal condemnation of
the violations, of the most fundamental rights of women by the Khomeini regime.
She also urged the Conference to adopt “frameworks and mechanisms that would pave the way for effectively defending women’s rights and prosecuting Khomeini’s heirs in an international tribunal for their crimes against humanity and especially women.”
Rajavi said that in the past two days, in the course of attacks on women, including non-Iranian women and even female personnel of diplomatic mission§ in Tehran, by the regime’s hooligans and thugs, more than 1,000 women have been arrested on the charge of “mal-veiling.” She added: The escalation of the clampdown on women comes following the failure of the regime’s election farce. The dictatorship ruling Iran is on its last legs, finding it necessary to intensify the repression to confront widespread social discontent and economic crises as well as the growing nationwide resistance of the Iranian people.
The Mojahedin’s Secretary General noted: the following: The religious-terrorist regime ruling Iran tops the list of human rights violators in contemporary executing 100,000 and incarcerating and torturing 150,000 others. It has been condemned 28 times by the United Nations General Assembly, Commission on Human Rights and the Sub-Commission on Prevention of Discrimination and Protection of Minorities. Nonetheless, the savage treatment and persistent persecution, harassment, torture and execution of women are the most blatant and most inhuman aspects of this regime’s oppression.
Rajavi emphasized that mullahs ruthless suppression of women has given them an unprecedented potential for rebellion against the Khomeini regime. Their extensive presence in the ranks of the People’s Mojahedin Organization and the National Liberation Army of Iran has sounded the alarm bells for Khomeini’s heirs. This explains why the clerics subject women to their most appalling crimes, she added.
In conclusion, the Mojahedin’s Secretary General said: The persistence and, ruthless suppression of Iranian women requires urgent and decisive action by the international community. The world community must not allow this anti-human regime to further oppress the women of my country so violently.
